The soils of Fontfroide and Saint-Julien de Septime
incorporate the entire meaning of "land".
The sandy and clay soils are deep and, due to a good water
retention capacity, vines have ideal conditions for growing.

Roussanne : grape of great white wines

Fontfroide's white wines are from the vineyards located around the massif of the Cross at Fontfroide.

It is a shadowed "terroir" on which late maturing white grape varieties, such as grenache blanc, roussanne and marsanne, are cultivated in perfect conditions to bring out their best qualities.

AOC red vineyards: exceptional soils

Syrah, grenache noir and carignan (A.O.C Corbières grape varieties) are planted on lower and warmer slots, still with north-west exposure which regulates sun exposure and allows gradual maturity as well as preserving the individual features of each variety of grape.

Grenache noir: very historical !

One of the capitals (XIV century) of the abbey cloister, which represents a grape branch, undoubtedly Grenache.

Wines of Pays d'Oc

Merlot has very favourable conditions for cultivation on the lands of St Julien de Septime. Vines are about 20 - 25 years old and are in remarkable condition; they produce each year wine of substantial quality, typical to its variety.

Chardonnay, which grows on sandy and clay souls, fully profits from the warm but moderate climate, particularly, due to maritime winds, which accentuate the thermic range of day and night.
